Dental Sedation

Despite our best efforts to produce a calm, relaxing atmosphere in our practice, we recognize that some patients may still feel nervous when visiting the dentist’s office. Our team understands this and provides options for even the most anxious patients to make the visit less stressful.

We offer multiple options for dental sedation in our office so that the method fits both the patient and the dental work being performed. Some of the options may be best suited for longer, more invasive treatments, while others are great for producing a calming effect during brief visits.

For patients in or around Bell, CA, interested in utilizing sedation at their next appointment, call today! We will be happy to discuss your options in further detail to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident during your next appointment.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that we provide in our practice. This sedative is administered as a gas that is inhaled through a small mask secured over the patient’s nose during their treatment. The gas begins working quickly and remains efficient throughout the entire visit, only losing its effect after the mask is removed.

Many patients enjoy this option as it is non-invasive, wears off quickly after treatment, and it does not require intravenous administration with a needle. The gas produces a calming effect on patients, allowing them to remain awake while feeling more relaxed and carefree.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is administered as a pill that is prescribed by our dentist prior to the patient’s procedure. While this option does not put patients to sleep, it can make them feel drowsy. For this reason, a patient using this option will need to have arrangements made for a friend or family member to drive them to and from their appointment.

Taking an oral sedative takes some time to become effective, so the dentist will likely instruct patients to take it at least an hour before the procedure.

IV Sedation

IV sedation, or intravenous sedation, is a method typically used for our practice’s more invasive surgical procedures or for the completion of lengthy treatments. The sedative is administered through a needle that is inserted into the patient’s vein.

This form of sedation will begin working quickly and can make the patient incapable of remembering the procedure being performed. The amnesiac effect allows patients to feel less anxious as they will have no recollection of the procedure while it is being performed and after it is complete. Patients opting for this form of sedation will need a friend or family member to drive them home once their appointment is complete.
